This article discusses “digital media in practical driver educationâ€. At first the corresponding development and research project is presented. Afterwards we think about theories which enable us to analyze the development of driving competence under the perspective of situated learning. For that purpose some general aspects of situated learning as well as possibilities for its media-based support will be compiled and explained. With regard to practice we will then provide first concepts for instruction and further education: We report on learning scenarios for the student driver as well as the driving instructor. Moreover we will show which links to the current web 2.0-discussion arise within the project. Finally some challenges for research come up. The article ends with a summary of current experiences and findings as well as the potential benefit for other educational contexts.
