Ideas and goals of the media laboratory

The Institute for Media and Educational Technology (imb) is a research and development  center. It also serves as a service center for the study programm Media and Commucication as well as the entire University of Augsburg. Its main focus is the developement of innovative teaching, learning and research scenarios and their implementation at institutions of higher education. Its major objective is to develop resource-efficient solutions for the application of information and communication technologies for professors, students and for research projects.

Members of the University of Augsburg receive consultation and support in the following areas:

• Development of media products and creation of virtual teaching and learning scenarios (e-learning, blended learning)
• Mediation of research contents and results through targeted presentations at academic events
• Certification of media and information competencies (e-competencies)  for all university employees
• Documentation of all academic and socially important events at the university

The media laboratory plays an important role in the improvement of the quality of education. It also supports the communication of research results and the external image of the university.

In cooperation with the IT Service Centre, the media laboratory aims to combine already existing competencies in the area of information and communication technologies, further extend these through research and development projects, and extend this expertise into a university wide innovation strategy for medium-sized universities.
